This workshop took place in Stockholm, Sweden, on
22-23 May 1997. The proceedings bring together the various
presentations and discussions of senior experts in the field
of tailings management. Subjects such as insights into past
failures, technical measures of construction and operation,
design standards, regulations, and corporate policies are
covered. The papers represent current best practice and
operating experience from all parts of the world, as seen
by mine owners, consultants and regulatory agencies.
As much of the value of the workshop was in the
group and plenary discussions, summaries of these sessions
are also included in the Proceedings. Finally the policy
positions and activities of a number of international and
national bodies such as UNEP, ICME, ICOLD and SIDA are also
briefly listed.
