This website provides environmental information and links to other sources concerning the cyanide spill at Tarkwa gold mine in the Wassa West District of Ghana, which occurred on 16 October 2001 and 9 January 2003.  Information about cyanide is available under Cyanide Facts.

The mine is owned by Gold Fields Limited of South Africa.

GHANA GOLD MINE SPILLS INTO RIVER POLLUTED IN 2001

Lycos News (ENS) - 10 January 2003 - A river and communities poisoned by a cyanide spill from a gold mine in 2001 may have been hit by another spill from the same mining company. Further information can be obtained from the new article.
