AUSTRALIAN MINING FIRM
BLASTED FOR POLLUTING PAPUA NEW GUINEA
Lycos News (ENS) - 15 August 2000 -
A report into the daily operations of Papua New Guinea's Tolukuma
Gold Mine claims the mine's Australian operators knowingly expect
to wipe out all fish life and food resources along a 30 kilometer
(20 mile) stretch of a nearby river.
This is a direct consequence of the mine
dumping its waste directly into the Angabanga and Auga rivers, says
the report's authors, Australia's Mineral Policy Institute (MPI),
Greenpeace Australia and the Environmental Law Center. http://www.tisaforum.org.yu/arhiva/IHRSFinalVersion.doc
