CYANIDE COMPENDIUM

The mining industry as a whole is frequently pilloried for the precious metals sector's use of cyanide. While considerable quantities of cyanide are used in extracting precious metals, mining is by no means the only industry using cyanide, and its safety record is generally excellent. Of all the hydrogen cyanide produced globally every year, only about 13% is converted into sodium cyanide and used for precious metals extraction. The remaining 87% is used in the production of a wide range of products such as adhesives, computer electronics, fire retardants, cosmetics, dyes, nylon, paints, pharmaceuticals, Plexiglas, rocket propellant, and road and table salts.

The Cyanide Compendium presents the fundamentals and the approaches used in the development of the most efficient, economical and environmentally acceptable water management system possible for a particular mining operation utilising the cyanidation process. The water management and treatment processes discussed have been used alone and in combination to produce effluents of sufficient quality to allow discharge into the environment.

This CD is an essential source of information regarding cyanide and its chemistry, analysis, environmental fate, toxicity, management, recovery and treatment. It is an ideal reference for mining professionals, academics, regulators and non-governmental organisations working in the fields of mining, smelting, electroplating, metal finishing, plastics manufacturing and environmental reclamation projects.

The CD, priced at US$275, contains files of three complete books, and comprises over 1,000 pages of text and hundreds of tables, figures and literature citations. Also included are three cyanide management brochures published by Environment Australia, The Gold Institute and the International Council on Minerals and the Environment. Fully printable and searchable using a keyword search engine, access to information of specific interest is simple and rapid.
