The UNCSD was founded after the Rio Earth Summit to ensure effective follow-up of the Summit, and to monitor and report on implementation of the Earth Summit agreements at the local, national, regional and international levels.

UNCTAD hosts the MRF web site. Its main task is to accelerate economic growth and development, particularly that of the developing countries.
