As well as being a repository of geological information on the United Kingdom, the BGS carries out research on a wide variety of subjects, many of which have environmental connections, including waste disposal, artisanal mining and land rehabilitation.

The Environment Agency is a non-departmental government body which monitors the environment in England and Wales. Their homepage provides information about the Agency and its functions. It also provides access to various reports and newsletters published by the agency and an index search facility for specific information.

bulletIEA Coal Research The Clean Coal Centre
The Clean Coal Centre was established in 1975 under the auspices of the International Energy Agency (IEA). The aim is to provide an impartial and objective information and assessment service on all aspects of coal-related technologies and economics. The service is governed by representatives of ten member countries and the European Commission.

The International Copper Study Group (ICSG), established in 1992, is an intergovernmental organization that serves to increase copper market transparency and promote international discussions and cooperation on issues related to copper. The ICSG is the only forum solely dedicated to copper where industry, its associations and governments can meet and discuss common problems and objectives.

Non Ferrous Metals Forum for Sustainable Development is a joint initiative of the International Copper Study Group, International Lead and Zinc Study Group and International Nickel Study Group that brings together stakeholders from Governments, Industry and NGOs to consider issues relating to the production, product stewardship and science of non-ferrous metals and sustainable development.

The mission of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is to administer the provisions of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 (Mine Act) and to enforce compliance with mandatory safety and health standards as a means to eliminate fatal accidents; to reduce the frequency and severity of nonfatal accidents; to minimize health hazards; and to promote improved safety and health conditions in the Nation's mines.
